“I believe that God is telling me that this is the time for us to open a Christian book store.”

With those words spoken in the summer of 2005, Sharon Culbertson told her husband Greg that they would be embarking on a new adventure.  After 10 plus years of considering various options, Blessings Christian Bookstore began taking shape in August and was officially opened for business in November of that same year.

​

As the mother of seven, Sharon often called Blessings “our 8th child” adding “and I’m not sure it’s ever going to grow up”. Greg had been the book buyer for the 700 Club in the early 90s and Sharon had worked in a couple of Christian bookstores as preparation for Blessings’ launch.

​

Moving from a small space on the edge of Harrisonburg to the main shopping district in June of 2009, Blessings has continued as a local “retail ministry”. Offering an extensive collection of Bibles, books, music, gifts, greeting cards, and scores of other items designed to assist churches and individuals reach their ministry goals, Blessings is blessed to serve the Shenandoah Valley and beyond with exemplary customer service and an inspiring array of product choices.

 

Sadly, Sharon passed away in October 2022.  Her heartfelt and cheerful greeting of “welcome to Blessings!” is sorely missed each and every day. The store remains as a meaningful legacy of her service and dedication.

 

Since then, her daughters Brittany and Dawn - along with a few other employees - have helped Greg keep Blessings a “must go” destination for anyone looking for a great selection of Christian products.
